WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) voted in support of H.R. 6448, the Invest to Protect Act. Congressman Valadao is an original co-sponsor of bill, which would establish a grant program through the Department of Justice to fund training for de-escalation, domestic violence, and officer safety to departments with less than 125 officers. This bill also provides grants for mental health services, treatments, and therapy for the police officers of small communities.

“We need to make sure our smaller police departments in the Central Valley have enough funding to properly recruit, train, and provide resources for their officers,” said Congressman Valadao. “I was proud to vote for the Invest to Protect Act to make sure our officers have the resources they need to keep themselves and our communities safe.”

Background:

Congressman Valadao has championed the Invest to Protect Act since signing on as an original co-sponsor at the beginning of this year. Rep. Valadao penned an Op-ed during National Police Week about the importance of this bipartisan bill, and joined members in urging Speaker Pelosi to bring this vital piece of legislation to the floor for a vote. Throughout the year, he’s had several meetings with local law enforcement to discuss funding for rural police departments.
