A few weeks ago, under Yosemite’s iconic Half Dome, I joined my congressional colleagues on the House Committee on Natural Resources at the Curry Village Amphitheater for a field hearing on wildfires and forest management. The backdrop symbolized the health and beauty of America’s forests, but also stood testament to the urgency of the wildfire crisis that our state is all too familiar with.

Last Friday, Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-22) joined the House Natural Resources Committee for a field hearing on wildfires and forest management in Yosemite National Park. Ahead of the hearing, members participated in site tours of Mariposa Grove and learned more from the National Park Service about forest management priorities, preventative steps to combat wildfires, and water rights.

Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-22) joined Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) to introduce the Conrad State 30 and Physician Access Reauthorization Act of 2023. The legislation reauthorizes and modifies the Conrad 30 Program, which allows foreign doctors studying in the United States to obtain a visa following medical residency if they practice in a medically-underserved area for at least three years.

Specialty crops are a cornerstone of California agriculture – the state produces the most specialty crops in the country both in quantity and diversity, with over 400 different commodities produced in the state per year.
