WASHINGTON – Today, the House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) with Congressman Valadao’s support. The NDAA authorizes funding for all discretionary military programs and activities – including personnel, operations, maintenance, procurement, research, and development. It also outlines critical policies and directives for the Department of Defense. The FY24 NDAA authorizes $886.3B in national defense discretionary programs.
“In Congress, my most important duty is ensuring the safety of all Americans, including my constituents in the Central Valley,” said Congressman Valadao. “This year’s defense bill provides a robust budget to counteract the damaging impacts of inflation on our Department of Defense and military families, including a 5.2% pay raise for our troops. I’m proud to support this bipartisan effort to provide our military with the equipment, resources, and training needed to effectively defend the United States against our adversaries.”
Among other provisions, the FY24 NDAA:
- Authorizes a 5.2% pay increase for servicemembers, the largest pay raise in over 20 years.
- Modifies the Basic Allowance for Housing to increase reimbursement for junior enlisted servicemembers amid soaring rental rates.
- Establishes a new Special Inspector General for Ukraine Security Assistance to direct and coordinate the oversight and audit of all aid provided to Ukraine by the United States.
- Improves access to mental health services and treatment options for post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries.
- Includes increased funding for military construction and logistics capabilities necessary in the Indo-Pacific.
- Requires the DoD to correct personnel files of servicemembers discharged for not taking the COVID-19 vaccine so that they receive full benefits in retirement
