Congressman Valadao Cosponsors Bipartisan Resolution Condemning Violence Against AAPI Community

  • House of Representatives
“The 21st Congressional District is home to a dynamic Asian-American and Pacific Islander population which contributes so much to the Central Valley’s vibrancy,” said Congressman Valadao. “It is especially important at this time to make a clear statement that the United States will not stand for these racially charged crimes. We must do everything we can to ensure Asian-American and Pacific Islanders are welcomed and safe in their communities.”

Congressman Valadao Cosponsors Bipartisan Resolution Condemning Violence Against AAPI Community

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman David G. Valadao co-sponsored a resolution to formally condemn hate crimes committed against Asian-American and Pacific Islanders. Introduced by Representative Michelle Steel (R-CA), the resolution calls on Federal, state, and local law enforcement officers to investigate all reports of hate crimes against Asian-American and Pacific Islanders and bring those responsible to justice.

Following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, violent crimes and threats against Asian-American and Pacific Islanders have surged in the United States. Between March 19 and December 31, 2020, these crimes and similar business discrimination have disproportionally affected the AAPI community, fueled by racial prejudice concerning the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
