HANFORD – U.S. Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) released the following statement regarding water allocations announced by the United States Bureau of Reclamation today.

“Following my request last month, I am pleased the Bureau of Reclamation has agreed to increase water allocations for South-of-Delta Central Valley Project contractors. While increased allocations are always appreciated, it is disappointing water allocations are not greater considering precipitation levels. I look forward to implementing a long term drought solution through passage of my legislation, H.R. 23, the GROW Act."

On April 27, 2018, Congressman Valadao sent a letter to the United States Department of Interior Secretary, Ryan Zinke requesting the Bureau of Reclamation increase allocations for agriculture use. The letter can be read here.

On Friday, May 25, 2018, the Bureau of Reclamation issued updated allocations for South-of-Delta Central Valley Project contractors for the 2018 contract year. Citing "continued refinement of hydrologic analyses and other operational factors" BOR increased allocations from forty percent to forty five percent for South-of-Delta agricultural water service contractors while the allocation for municipal and industrial contractors South-of-Delta remains at the greater of seventy five percent of their historic use or public health and safety needs.

Congressman David G. Valadao represents the 21st Congressional District, which includes Kings County and portions of Fresno, Tulare, and Kern Counties.
