Washington - U.S. Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) today announced the 2015 Congressional Art Competition for the 21st Congressional District. The winning artist’s work will be displayed for one year in the national exhibition in the Cannon Tunnel, a pedestrian walkway leading to the U.S. Capitol.

“I am excited to host the competition for the 21st Congressional District for the third time. It is a great opportunity for your students to have their work recognized at a national level,” Congressman Valadao said in a statement.

He continued, “With millions of visitors at the Capitol each year, the winning student will find a strong audience for their great work, while showing off the artistic abilities of the Central Valley.”

The Congressional Art Competition was created in 1982, and hundreds of thousands of high school students throughout the country have participated throughout the years. One winner is chosen from each participating Congressional district and also receives a roundtrip ticket to Washington, D.C. compliments of Southwest Airlines.

The second place winner will have their artwork displayed in Congressman Valadao’s Washington office and the third place winner will have their artwork displayed in Congressman Valadao’s district office in Hanford.

All artwork and signed release forms must be brought to the Hanford or Bakersfield offices no later than Wednesday, April 22, 2015. A distinguished panel of non-biased local art experts will choose the winning piece of art to be announced at a local Congressional Art Competition Reception. The reception will take place at Congressman Valadao's Hanford office on Thursday, May 7, 2015 from 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM at 101 North Irwin Street, #110B, Hanford, CA 93230.
