Hanford – On Wednesday, January 14, 2015, Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) announced the five Central Valley students who have received his Congressional Nomination for appointment to one of the five United States Service Academies. The nominees are seeking admission to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.

A non-partisan Academy Advisory Board made up Central Valley veterans assisted with the nomination process. Factors such as academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, leadership skills, physical ability, and character of applicants were taken into consideration by the advisory board during the nomination process.

Congressman Valadao stated, “It is a great privilege to be involved in this process. These students exemplify true leadership, determination, and commitment. Their willingness to serve and their dedication to our country is inspiring.”

Congressman Valadao’s nomination does not guarantee admission to a service academy as the academies’ respective admissions boards decide who is offered appointment, and ultimately admitted. Some individuals may have been nominated to multiple academies; if they receive appointment offers from more than one academy, the student will decide which to attend.

The following is a list of nominees and their high schools:

Mr. Robert Moita from Wasco High School has been nominated to the United States Air Force Academy

Ms. Hailey Kiser from Kingsburg High School has been nominated to the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Naval Academy

Mr. Dylan Chang from Selma High School has been nominated to the United States Military Academy

Mr. Sean Ruzicka from Lemoore High School has been nominated to the United States Naval Academy

Mr. Roman Benitez from Lemoore High School has been nominated to the United States Naval Academy

Congressman David G. Valadao represents the 21st Congressional District, which includes Kings County and portions of Fresno, Tulare, and Kern Counties.
