Washington – Today, American Sikh Congressional Caucus Co-Chairs Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) and Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27) and released the following statements on the anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru:

Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21), Co-Chair:
“American-Sikhs play a very important role in our communities, especially in California’s Central Valley, which is home to a large population of American-Sikhs. Today, on the Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Birth, let us remember the important lessons he taught and why they are the foundation of Sikhism to this day. As Americans we should also try to live by these teachings of equality, compassion, and virtue.”

Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27), Co-Chair:
“I join the Sikh community in the United States and around the world to commemorate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings, based on ethical and moral values are at the core of Sikhism and remain a model for so many today, centuries after his death. We are grateful to the American Sikh community, who continue to enrich our nation through these teachings and embody the shared American values of love, tolerance and compassion.”
