Valadao Announces Economic Development Administration Investment Award for Delano Rail Spur Construction
Today, Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) praised the Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) decision to provide the City of Delano with an EDA Investment Award for the construction of a rail spur in Kern County.Today, Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) praised the Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) decision to provide the City of Delano with an EDA Investment Award for the construction of a rail spur in Kern County.
This EDA investment will fund the construction of a rail spur that will connect the Union Pacific Railroad with an industrial park and other undeveloped land in Delano. This project will provide the region with improved access to transportation infrastructure strengthening the areas ability to move goods and services through the region, increasing commercial activity and employment opportunities for the local workforce.
Congressman Valadao stated, “As a result of this investment award over 300 jobs will be created in the Delano area and about $35,000,000 million in private investment will be leveraged. This type of investment will help strengthen our local economy and provide jobs for those looking for work.”
EDA grants are awarded through a competitive process based upon the application’s merit, the applicant’s eligibility, and the availability of funds. The entire project is estimated to cost approximately $3,481,794; the EDA Investment Award is for $1,846,062.
Congressman David G. Valadao represents the 21st Congressional District, which includes Kings County and portions of Fresno, Tulare, and Kern Counties.
