WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-22) released the following statement after he was appointed by Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole (OK-04) to serve as the Chairman of the House Appropriations Legislative Branch Subcommittee. Rep. Valadao is now one of the twelve “cardinals” in the House of Representatives who will oversee the budget of each agency within the subcommittee’s jurisdiction.

“It’s an honor to be selected by Chairman Cole to lead the Legislative Branch Subcommittee,” said Congressman Valadao. “I’ve had the privilege of serving on the Appropriations Committee since I was first elected to Congress in 2013, and through every funding fight over the years, I’ve always sought to put the needs of my Central Valley constituents first. The Legislative Branch Subcommittee does critical work to ensure Congress is best equipped to meet the needs of the people we represent, and I look forward to leading this subcommittee in a bipartisan manner. I’m thankful to the Chairman for entrusting me with this role, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee to ensure taxpayer dollars are being used responsibly.”

“The Appropriations Committee is lucky to have Congressman Valadao step up to the role of Chairman of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee. In all of the years I’ve known David, he has proven himself to be an effective legislator who remains hyper-focused on serving his constituents. The Legislative Branch Subcommittee will be in excellent hands under his leadership. I look forward to hitting the ground running with our Committee to deliver the necessary appropriations bills in a timely manner and fulfill our fiscal commitments,” said Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole.

The Legislative Branch Subcommittee has jurisdiction over all entities within the legislative branch of government, including the Capitol Police, Architect of the Capitol, Congressional Budget Office, Government Accountability Office, House of Representatives, Library Congress, and the Senate.
