Congressman Valadao Co-sponsors Legislation to Help Reduce Costs for Technical Training Certification
WASHINGTON — This week, Congressman David G. Valadao joined as an original co-sponsor of the American Workforce Empowerment Act to allow families to use funds from 529 plans for non-degree technical training certificate programs and required books, tools, and other fees. 529 plans are tax-advantaged savings plans that are federal tax-free when used for qualified educational expenses. The American Workforce Empowerment Act designates costs for non-degree certification programs, including those for plumbing, construction, manufacturing, and other trades, as qualified educational expenses.
“Education provides a pathway to success, and I believe everyone should have the tools and resources they need to accomplish their goals,” said Congressman Valadao. “Technical and vocational training programs benefit many in the Central Valley, and allowing families to save for future education in these trades is an important step in providing opportunities to improve the lives of Americans.”
