Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues Pens Letter to President Biden Urging Recognition of Armenian Genocide

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman David G. Valadao and over 100 of his colleagues sent a letter to President Joe Biden urging him to formally recognize the Armenian Genocide. The letter comes ahead of Saturday’s 106th anniversary of this tragedy. Despite both the House of Representatives and the Senate passing resolutions in 2019 recognizing the Armenian Genocide, no United States President has ever joined in acknowledging the systematic and organized murder and deportation of an estimated 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman Empire during World War I.

“Formal recognition of the Armenian genocide is long overdue in the United States where so many Armenian-Americans continue to feel the pain of this tragedy,” said Congressman Valadao. “I urge President Biden to formally honor those affected by this atrocity and offer the Armenian-American community this validation they deserve.”

The National Day of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide, observed annually on April 24, honors and remembers the lives lost and forever changed by these horrific events. As co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, Congressman Valadao works to bring awareness to important issues for the Armenian-American community such as the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
