WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-22) voted in support of H.R. 21, the Strategic Production Response Act. During the past two years, the Biden administration has approved the release of nearly 40% of our Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR) – totaling over 250 million barrels of crude oil. Today, the SPR has the lowest level of reserves since May of 1984. The bill would require any future non-emergency SPR releases to be accompanied by a plan from the Secretary of Energy to increase the percentage of federal lands and waters leased for oil and gas production.
“Whether it's traditional crude oil, natural gas, nuclear, solar, or wind - America has some of the greatest energy resources of any nation in the world. President Biden's policies have restricted our ability to produce energy here at home, resulting in higher energy prices for people across the Central Valley and continued prevention of achieving energy independence,” said Congressman Valadao. “Instead of unleashing our resources and creating American jobs, this administration has used the SPR as a quick political fix, leaving America vulnerable to supply emergencies and our reserves at the lowest level in 40 years. I was proud to vote for the Strategic Production Response Act to replenish our reserves and strengthen our national security."
