Strengthening Our National Defense

Now more than ever, it’s vital our military has the resources necessary to confront the threats we face throughout the world. This week I was proud to fulfill that responsibility by voting for the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the bill which authorizes funding and outlines policy priorities for our military. The 2025 NDAA ensures our military has the personnel, equipment, and training necessary to defend the U.S. against our adversaries. It also provides a well-deserved pay raise and quality-of-life improvements, including improved housing and medical care, for servicemembers. Read more about the wins secured in this bill here.

Addressing the Court Backlog in California

For far too long, the shortage of federal judges across the United States has left many trapped in the legal system due to unacceptably long delays. This issue has been especially felt in California’s Eastern District Court which serves the Central Valley. This week I was proud to vote in support of the JUDGES Act to address this critical issue. The JUDGES Act will add 63 permanent judgeships nationwide over the next decade, including four for here in the Central Valley. I have not doubt this will provide much-needed relief to so many in our community. This bill now heads to President Biden’s desk to be signed into law. Read more about the bill here.

Welcoming Sierra Pacific High School Students to the Capitol

This week the Sierra Pacific Girls High School Basketball team was in Washington for a tournament. On Thursday I had the pleasure of welcoming them to the Capitol for a tour of the building. It was great to share with them about my work in Congress and answer some of their questions. If you’re planning a trip to D.C. and would like a tour, you can visit my website here.

Team Valadao in the Valley

While I was in Washington this week, members of Team Valadao were out in the Valley, attending local events in the community. Last weekend, Golden Valley High School hosted the “We the People” competition, which tests students on their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution. I’d like to congratulate Arvin High School on their victory in Region 4! My office was proud to present the team with certificates in recognition of their achievement. They are now headed to the State competition.

This week, the City of Tulare held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new emergency homeless shelter being built. This facility will address the urgent need for support among those experiencing homelessness in the community. The shelter will operate year-round, 24/7, with 400 beds. I was proud to help secure $1.5 million in federal funding to help make this project a reality.

Congress passes bipartisan bill to add judges to Central Valley

Congress passed the JUDGES Act of 2024 on Thursday, which would add judges across the nation, including in the Eastern District Court of California, to ease a burdened judiciary... Rep. David Valadao (R–Hanford) co-sponsored a version of the bill earlier this year.
