As Congress begins its August district work period, I'm looking forward to spending some time back home in the Central Valley meeting with the people I'm proud to represent. This time in the district is an important opportunity to hear directly from constituents, visit local businesses and organizations, and ensure my work in Washington reflects the priorities of CA-22.

It's been a busy year so far, and I want to take an opportunity to highlight the work my team and I have accomplished on behalf of CA-22. From helping constituents navigate federal agencies through our dedicated casework, to advancing bills that reflect the needs of the Central Valley, my office has remained focused on delivering meaningful results for our region.

As we celebrate National Intern Day, I’d like to thank those who have served in both our district and Washington, D.C. offices. Their hard work has played a vital role in serving people across California's 22nd Congressional District.

Internships are an important part of professional development, as they provide an opportunity to gain valuable work experience, build meaningful connections, and develop tangible skills that will be useful in future endeavors. Our district office interns have had the opportunity to attend events, meet local leaders, and assist field representatives with constituent communication. In Washington, interns have the opportunity to become fully immersed in the legislative process, conduct research, attend legislative hearings, shadow communications and legislative professionals, and lead tours of the U.S. Capitol for constituents.

My offices in Hanford, Bakersfield, and Washington, D.C. are always looking for future leaders to participate in our internship program. I encourage all those interested to apply through our website here!

It was another busy week in the district for Team Valadao. The week began with a productive discussion with the Friant Water Authority about recent accomplishments, upcoming projects, and the Authority’s critical role in delivering water throughout the region. My staff also attended the Kings County Board of Supervisors meeting, where Ann Scott was recognized for her 100th birthday and decades of service to the community as Kings County Librarian. During the meeting, the Board also received updates from the Kings County Fire Department and the Boys & Girls Club of the Sequoias. Later, my team celebrated the grand openings of Phoenix at Sundale and the Ice House Venue by attending their ribbon-cutting ceremonies and recognized Kern County Chief Probation Officer Bill Dickinson for his dedicated service by presenting him with a Congressional Record statement.

Throughout the week, my staff attended the Bakersfield-Kern Regional Homeless Collaborative Executive Board meeting to discuss key issues facing the region and visited Tessenderlo Kerley after the company earned the highest recognition for workplace safety and health standards. They presented the company with a Certificate of Recognition and toured its facilities to learn more about its operations and commitment to employee safety. My team also met with Crossroads Pregnancy Center in Hanford to learn more about the services it provides to women, children, and families across Kings County. Later in the week, staff participated in a ride-along with the Shafter Police Department and the Bakersfield Flood Ministries Outreach Team, gaining firsthand insight into the important work they do and how our office can continue supporting those efforts.

The week concluded with meetings with Garden Pathways, Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance, and the Kern County Aging and Adult Services Department to learn more about the important services they provide throughout the district. My team also met with the Kern Community Foundation, attended the Kern County ADA Conference to present a Certificate of Recognition, and met with the Kern County Farm Bureau to discuss the latest issues facing Valley agriculture and the work I am doing in Washington to support our farmers. They wrapped up the week by attending the Kern Community Foundation’s Fellowship Closing Ceremony, celebrating the accomplishments of local young leaders as they completed the program.
