U.S. Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) today announced that he will join the Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA) to hold a “Prescription Assistance Workshop” event to educate and assist Kern County residents who need help accessing their medicines at the pharmacy. With nearly 4 million uninsured California residents, there is no better time than now to share this vital information.

The open house, hands-on event, will be held at the Friendship House Community Center, a facility of the Community Action Partnership of Kern (CAPK), located at 2424 Cottonwood Road, Bakersfield, California 93307. The Prescription Assistance Workshop will take place on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM with an information briefing beginning at 10:00 AM.

PPA assisters will be on hand to help patients log-on to www.pparx.org and see if they qualify for assistance. To do this, patients need to know what prescription medicines they take and tell us a little about themselves (age, income, health coverage, etc.). Results will be available instantly and in many cases, program applications can be downloaded and printed or emailed directly to participants.

“In Congress, I have fought for affordable, quality healthcare for every single Central Valley family,” stated Congressman Valadao. He continued, “There is no doubt our nation has a healthcare crisis on our hands and as we continue to enact reforms to eliminate waste and reduce costs, events such as the Prescription Assistance Workshop will provide immediate help to those families most in need.”

“Despite more Americans having insurance, barriers to accessing medicines still exist, underscoring the importance of PPA to educate and empower patients and caregivers to obtain information about their prescription assistance options,” said Holly Campbell, PhRMA spokesperson, whose member companies sponsor PPA. “So far, PPA has helped more than 300,000 Californians find out if they qualify for free or nearly free medicines. That’s good news for California.”

PPA is a free, confidential online resource sponsored by America’s biopharmaceutical research companies that helps uninsured and underinsured Americans access patient assistance programs that offer prescription medicines for free or nearly free. Since its launch in April 2005, the PPA has helped connect nearly 10 million patients to public and private assistance programs, including more than 318,000 Californians.

The program offers a single point of access to information on more than 475 public and private patient assistance programs, including nearly 200 offered by biopharmaceutical companies. Together, these programs offer access to more than 2,500 prescription medicines, including a wide range of generics.

Additionally, PPA provides information on nearly 10,000 free healthcare clinics across the country, with many here in California, and has connected more than one million patients with clinics and healthcare providers in their communities. A mobile app is also available for free at Google Play and Apple iTunes which lets users search for patient assistance programs and explore our healthcare clinical database.

For more information, or to register to the event, please contact Congressman Valadao’s Hanford Office at (559) 582-5526 or email RSVP.Valadao@mail.house.gov. To find out if there are patient assistance programs that may meet their needs, patients should visit www.pparx.org.

Congressman David G. Valadao represents the 21st Congressional District, which includes Kings County and portions of Fresno, Tulare, and Kern Counties.
