WASHINGTON, DC – U.S Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) today announced that he has been selected to serve on the House-Senate Conference Committee responsible for reconciling the differences between the House and Senate passed Military Construction and Veterans Affairs appropriations bills.

Last week, H.R. 4974, the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill and H.R. 5243, the Zika Response Appropriations Act were passed by the U.S. House of Representatives with bipartisan support. The same week, the Senate voted to approve a spending package, H.R. 2577, which included the FY2017 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, (THUD) Appropriations Act, the FY2017 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (MilCon-VA) Appropriations Act, and funding for the Zika Virus response.

I'd like to thank Speaker Ryan and Chairman Rogers for selecting me to represent the House in this conference committee. I look forward to working with both Republicans and Democrats in the House and Senate to find compromise between both Chambers legislation, so we may get this bill signed into law as quickly as possible," stated Congressman Valadao. He continued, “With the ongoing inadequacy of the Veterans Affairs administration, it is more important than ever that Congress does everything in its power to ensure veterans receive quality care from the VA. I am committed to ensuring that our servicemen and women are taken care of when they return home.”

Speaker of the House Paul D. Ryan said, “Congressman Valadao has been a leader and steadfast advocate on behalf of veterans in California and throughout the Nation. I am confident he will continue his hard work on behalf of Americans servicemen and women and prove to be an indispensable member of this Committee.”

“As a Member of the House Appropriations Committee, Congressman Valadao has been a leader on military and veteran’s issues,” said U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations. “His background working with Naval Air Station Lemoore and the Veterans Administration in California’s Central Valley will make him a valuable resource to the Conference Committee.”

Background: Rep. Valadao is a Member of the House Appropriations Committee, Subcommittee on Military Contraction and Veterans Affairs. Through the MilCon-VA Appropriations Bill, Congress authorizes funds to house, train, and quip military personal, provide housing and services to military families, maintain base infrastructure, and support veterans’ benefit programs.

The complete list of House conferees is as follows:

Chairman Hal Rogers
Rep. David G. Valadao
Rep. Kay Granger
