Supporting Central Valley Agricultural Producers

Central Valley producers are the backbone of our nation’s domestic garlic supply, but China’s practice of "dumping" garlic into the U.S. market has unfairly driven local producers out of the market. Since 2000, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has collected duties on these imports as required by law, yet our growers still haven’t received the payments they’re owed. CBP still owes garlic producers an additional $10.5 million in retroactive duty payments. That’s why I’m proud to join Congressman Jimmy Panetta in reintroducing the China Trade Cheating Restitution Act. This bipartisan bill ensures domestic producers finally receive those funds and gives them a fair chance to compete in the marketplace.

Meeting with Superintendent Dr. Cantwell-Copher

I had a great meeting with Fresno Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Michele Cantwell-Copher, where we discussed the importance of expanding access to education in the Valley. It was great to learn more about the Pro-Child Policy Agenda and how it provides the necessary support that students need to reach their full potential. I believe we must invest in our youth and provide them with the support and education they deserve, and I look forward to continuing to work together to achieve that goal.

Meeting with the Peace Officers Research Association of California

On Thursday, I met with the directors of the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC) to discuss upcoming policies that support our local law enforcement and their families. Our Central Valley police departments continue to face staffing shortages, and we need real solutions to support people who put their lives on the line to keep up safe. Improving the recruitment, retention, and training of our officers is a critical step in advancing public safety, and I look forward to our continued collaboration.

Meeting with the California Table Grape Commission

This week, I met with the California Table Grape Commission to discuss the challenges our table grape producers are facing. The specialty crop industry continues to face rising input costs, foreign competition, and other unprecedented obstacles, and I look forward to continuing to support our growers as they produce the food that feeds our nation.

Team Valadao Attends La Colonia's Centennial Celebration

This week, the Mexican community of La Colonia celebrated its 100-year anniversary. What began with just fifteen families settling outside of Shafter has grown into a vibrant, thriving community that remains an essential part of the region today. For generations, La Colonia's residents have contributed to our agricultural heritage, strengthened local transportation, and helped shape Shafter into the city it is today. Team Valadao was honored to attend the centennial celebration and present a Certificate of Recognition for the community's hard work, resilience, and dedication to preserving an important part of our shared American history.

California lawmakers push bill to tighten oversight of biolabs

Three California lawmakers introduced the "Preventing Illegal Laboratories and Protecting Public Health Act," aimed at preventing dangerous, unlicensed labs from operating in the U.S. The move comes after what was found at the Reedley Bio Lab just outside Fresno, where deadly pathogens were discovered.

The bill would strengthen oversight and close loopholes that allow these labs to operate under the radar.
