On Tuesday my bill, the Romance Scam Prevention Act, passed out of a full committee markup from the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. Millions of Americans use online dating services to make connections, making them the perfect platform for romance scammers to target their victims. According to the Federal Trade Commission, victims of romance scams in the United States lost over $1.1 billion in 2023. Criminals use fake names and stories to lure individuals into conversation before manipulating them to give up sensitive information or funds.
Alerting users that they have been in contact with someone who has been banned for fraud is a basic security feature that will save Americans billions, and I'm proud to lead this effort alongside my Congressional colleagues.

Yesterday, I reintroduced the Supplemental Oxygen Access Reform (SOAR) Act. This bipartisan, bicameral bill makes reforms to improve access to supplemental oxygen for Medicare beneficiaries. Supplemental oxygen is lifesaving, but many people struggle to get access due to the burdensome Medicare requirements. The SOAR Act would make it easier for people to get the oxygen treatment they need to live healthy, active lives, and I'm happy to lead the charge to provide this critical treatment.

This week, I co-led the introduction of the Combatting Organized Retail Crime (CORCA) Act. This bipartisan bill takes important steps to strengthen legal tools for law enforcement and crack down on crime. In the 118th Congress, I introduced the Safeguarding our Supply Chains Act to fight back against cargo theft, and I'm happy to see some of that language included in this bill. Cargo theft and retail crime hurt our families, local businesses, and raise prices at the checkout line, and I'm proud to work with my colleagues in Congress to fight back.

In California, it can take weeks to certify election results, which undermines the public trust necessary for free and fair elections. That's why I co-led the introduction of the Election Results Accountability Act. This bill aims to improve transparency and restore trust in the democratic process by setting deadlines for ballot counting and certification of election results. Californians—and all Americans—deserve to know the results of their elections in a timely and transparent manner, and this bill takes critical steps to do so.

On Tuesday, I met with representatives from the Associated Builders and Contractors from Kern County. We discussed unlocking California's energy sector and support for an all-of-the-above energy strategy. I look forward to our continued conversations.

This week, I had the honor of celebrating the Sierra Pacific Girls Basketball Team for their incredible 2025 season. Last month, the Lady Bears won the CIF Central Section 2 Division Championship. These athletes showed grit, heart, and determination all season-long, and their championship win is a testament to their talent and discipline. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and families! You've made all of us in the Central Valley proud.

Last weekend, I joined Arvin High School's Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) for their annual military ball. The JROTC program isn’t just about preparing for a potential career serving our country, it’s about shaping responsible and engaged citizens. The hours these students put into the program after school, on weekends, and in their free time demonstrates their discipline and leadership. I was honored to celebrate their achievements and wish them the very best.

Yesterday, my office had the opportunity to welcome the Kern County Honor Flight to the United States Capitol. Over 100 veterans from all over Kern County were given a tour and got the chance to visit the floor of the House of Representatives. This event is so special because it provides our local veteran community with the opportunity to see a number of monuments throughout the Washington, D.C. area, and I look forward to continuing our partnership with the program.

This week, I met with Blake Zante, Executive Director of the Maddy Institute. The Maddy Institute is a public policy partnership program with colleges throughout the San Joaquin Valley that connects participants with internships at the local, state, and federal level. I've worked with the Maddy Institute for a number of years to place interns in my Washington, D.C. office, and I look forward to continuing my work with the program.

While I was in Washington this week, Team Valadao was out in the Valley connecting with the community. In Wasco, they joined Líderes Campesinas to recognize volunteers helping women impacted by sexual assault, marking Sexual Assault Awareness Month. They also celebrated Vincent Sola, Tulare Kiwanis Club’s Farmer of the Year, with a presentation of his Congressional Record by my intern, Isabel. The team also joined Adventist Health to celebrate the generous donations from the Corcoran Community Foundation and Corcoran Hospital District to launch a new mobile healthcare center—bringing critical services closer to home for Valley families. Finally, my staff joined the Visalia Knights of Columbus for their 42nd Annual Public Safety Awards Ceremony to honor those who keep our communities safe.
