Hosting Service Academy Information Night

This week, my office hosted a Service Academy Information Night at Hanford West High School. This annual event gives high school students a chance to learn about some of our nation’s most prestigious academic universities and meet with representatives from each of the service academies. Nominating students to our service academies is one of the highest honors I have as a member of Congress, and I was proud to congratulate our office’s nominees who were accepted this year.

Touring Wonderful Pistachios

Recently, I toured the Wonderful Pistachio and Almond facility to meet with their team and learn more about their operations. We also discussed important legislation impacting our agricultural community, including the Farm Bill. Thank you to the Wonderful team for a great tour.

Meeting with Local Leaders in Higher Education

I was glad to speak at the Maddy Institute Lunch and meet with students, community members, and leaders from our local colleges. I gave an update on the issues I'm working on in Congress that have a direct impact on our communities, like ag and water policy.

The men and women who work our nation’s farms are critical to the global food supply and to our national security. Thank you to all the Valley farm workers for your dedication and commitment to our Central Valley agricultural community.

Casework Corner

Recently, the Social Security Administration announced a new policy to eliminate the overpayment recovery burden for Social Security beneficiaries. Social Security will decrease the default overpayment withholding rate for Social Security beneficiaries to ten percent from 100 percent, significantly reducing financial hardship for people with overpayments.

This change is being automatically applied only to new overpayments. If you are currently repaying an overpayment at a rate greater than 10% and would like a lower recovery rate, please call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 or your local Social Security office to speak with a representative.

For more information about Social Security’s new policy, click here.
