Today, I hosted a roundtable discussion on combatting human trafficking alongside Congressman Vince Fong (CA-20) and in partnership with Central Valley Against Human Trafficking (CVAHT). Unfortunately, California has the highest number of reported human tracking cases in the country, and it’s affecting communities right here in the Central Valley. This event brought together dozens of organizations in the community as well as victims of human trafficking to gain a deeper understanding of its impact, and we had a productive conversation on effective strategies to confront human trafficking. Thank you to all those who participated!

This week, Kern County welcomed several new organizations to the community. The Delano Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for Income Taxes Rapido y Preciso, a new tax preparation business in Delano. The Downtown Bakersfield Business Association also held an event to celebrate the opening of Bakersfield Elite Martial Arts. Finally, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the new Magdalene Hope Women’s Center in South Bakersfield. This shelter will provide vital support and resources to women who have been victims of trafficking. My staff was on hand to deliver certifications to these new organizations and to welcome them to the community. I wish them great success in the future!

Today I attended the swearing in ceremony of Alexandra Macedo as the new Assemblywoman for California's 33rd district. She will be representing parts of Kings and Tulare County in the State Assembly up in Sacramento. Assemblywoman Macedo is a native to Tulare and comes from a family with a strong agricultural background. I have no doubt that the citizens of the 33rd district will be in excellent hands. I wish her great success as she steps into this role.

On Sunday, Team Valadao visited the Kern County Museum in Bakersfield for the Revolutionary War Patriots Marker Dedication Ceremony. The marker was placed to honor those who fought for our nation’s Independence during the Revolutionary War. This event was hosted by the California State Society Daughters of the American Revolution District 15 and the marker was placed to celebrate our nation’s upcoming 250-year anniversary of our independence.

This past week was National School Choice Week. Choosing the right school for your child is a deeply personal and impactful decision for every family to make. A “one-size-fits-all” approach, as often pushed in Washington, D.C., simply doesn't meet the needs of most families. I’m proud to support school choice, so every student, regardless of their background, has access to the school that best meets their unique needs and sets them up for success.
