Welcoming USDA Secretary Rollins to Bakersfield

Today, I welcomed U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins to Allied Potato in Bakersfield for a roundtable discussion with Central Valley agricultural leaders. The conversation focused on key issues impacting producers across the Valley, including rising input costs, workforce shortages, burdensome regulations, and the need for a stronger safety net for specialty crop growers. Before the roundtable, Secretary Rollins and I toured Allied Potato’s operations, where we saw firsthand the work being done to grow, process, and package the food that helps feed families across the nation.

I was also proud to join Secretary Rollins as she announced USDA finalized $1.6 billion in assistance for specialty crop growers to help offset high costs and market distruptions. As the sole dairy farmer in Congress, I understand many of the challenges our producers are facing, which is why I’ve continued working to advocate for policies that support Central Valley agriculture and give producers the certainty they need to plan for the future. I appreciated the opportunity to bring local agricultural leaders together with USDA to ensure the voices of our farmers and ranchers are heard directly in Washington.

Team Valadao Hosts Service Academy Information Night

This week, my office hosted a Service Academy Information Night at Hanford West High School. This annual event gives students a chance to learn about some of our nation’s most prestigious academic universities and meet with representatives from each of the service academies. Thank you to all the students and parents who were able to make it. If you or someone you know wants to learn more about service academies but were unable to attend, please visit my website.

Team Valadao in the Valley

This week, Team Valadao honored our fallen heroes at the Memorial Day ceremonies held at Bakersfield National Cemetery, Historic Union Cemetery, and the Bakersfield Breakfast Rotary Club’s 1,000 Flags event. The team also attended the Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors’ Monthly Luncheon and celebrated the groundbreaking for the Alicante Elementary School expansion project.

Later in the week, my staff met with Hanford Fire Chief Daniel Perkins to discuss public safety priorities and connected with Hanford Parks and Community Services Director Brad Albert to learn more about upcoming community events. To close out the week, Team Valadao met with Bakersfield City Manager Christian Clegg, celebrated the grand reopening of the Buttonwillow pool, and attended the Senior Prom hosted by Remington Senior Living in Hanford, where they presented Certificates of Recognition to the prom king and queen.
