This week, I sent a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Majority Whip Tom Emmer, and Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Brett Guthrie regarding the federal budget and Medicaid. For many people in California's 22nd Congressional District, Medicaid means they have healthcare, and balancing a federal budget can't come at their expense.
To strengthen the program, I urged House Leadership to prioritize care for our most vulnerable populations. I've had numerous conversations with constituents who have asked for changes to the healthcare system to strengthen the healthcare workforce, offer low-income, hardworking families expanded opportunities to save for medical expenses, support our rural and underserved communities, and help new mothers.
Throughout the budget process, I've been outspoken about my support for Medicaid, and my stance hasn't changed. I won't support a final reconciliation bill that includes any reductions in Medicaid coverage for vulnerable populations, and I remain committed to continuing to advocate for the priorities of my constituents.
