Representative David Valadao

Dear [firstname],

It’s been a busy week here in Washington, D.C. Read below for an update on my work on behalf of the Central Valley.

Prioritizing California Water

This week I spoke to members of the Association of California Water Agencies at their annual conference. We discussed many critical water issues facing California– from the recent storms we’ve seen across the state to the Bureau of Reclamation's water allocations for Central Valley Project users. We also discussed the first bill I introduced in the new Congress – the WATER for California Act – which will streamline water operations, increase water storage infrastructure, and extend authorization of the successful water storage project program established by the WIIN act.

As your voice in Washington, I will continue to work with both republicans and democrats to ensure the Central Valley has the water access they deserve.

Reining in Inflation

For over two years, Valley families have felt the pain of rising prices every time they fill up their tanks or go to buy their weekly groceries. During these past two years, President Biden has issued more executive orders than any president since Gerald Ford, and inflation has increased more than 14% since he took office. You deserve to know how these executive orders are going to impact your wallet.

That’s why I was proud to vote for the REIN IN Inflation Act this week. This legislation holds President Biden accountable for his inflationary executive orders by requiring the administration to publish a report on the inflationary effects of any executive order to increase transparency and accountability.

Hearing from Agriculture Producers

This week, I attended the Western Caucus Agriculture Summit and Field Tour to hear firsthand from farmers, producers, and growers about their priorities for the upcoming Farm Bill. Not only did we get to hear from stakeholders, but we also learned about cutting-edge agricultural technologies and research programs that are critical to advancing the American ag industry.

Strengthening and Preserving Social Security

Since its implementation in 1935, Social Security has played a crucial role in protecting the most vulnerable in our country and, as a result, has become indispensable to the American way of life. Strengthening Social Security and Medicare for current recipients and those nearing retirement is one of my top priorities as your representative because I know how important these programs are to the health, well-being, and financial security of seniors in California’s 22nd Congressional District.

That is why I am proud to co-sponsor legislation like H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act, which will ensure public servants can access the benefits they’ve earned through paying into Social Security and H. Res. 109, which reaffirms Congress’s continuing commitment to preserving Social Security for current and future recipients.

Protecting Social Security for seniors will continue to be one of my top priorities as your voice in Congress.

Ask David

Our question this week comes from Juhree. They ask:

What are you doing about the rates and proposed rate increases for our utilities in the Central Valley?

Thanks for your question Juhree. The rising cost of energy bills for Central Valley residents is incredibly frustrating. I have heard from countless constituents about how their monthly energy bills have doubled, tripled, or quadrupled since the start of the year, putting yet another burden on hardworking Valley families already struggling with rising costs.

Pipeline outages and failed energy policies from Governor Newsom and President Biden have hindered the state’s ability to produce natural gas. America has some of the greatest energy resources of any nation in the world – we should be using these resources to create jobs, strengthen our national security, and bring prices down. Instead, this administration has created a regulatory nightmare for domestic energy producers. I will continue to call on Governor Newsom and President Biden to remove barriers to domestic energy production and support legislation that increases domestic natural gas production. Increasing our supply of energy is the only long-term solution to lower the price of energy bills for Central Valley residents.
