On Monday, I met with Kaiser Permanente's Kern County leadership team at their Stockdale facility. Together, we toured their facility and discussed the importance of expanding healthcare services in rural communities and the strengthening Medicaid services. Medicaid is a critical resource for residents of the Central Valley and beyond, and I remain committed to ensuring the families in our region have access to reliable and affordable healthcare.

This week, I met with the African American Network of Kern County's Executive Director, Dee Slade. We talked about the network's priorities, including funding for education, strengthening Medicaid and veterans care, and future development in Southeast Bakersfield. It was great sitting down Dee, and I look forward to our continued conversations.

March 18 was National Ag Day, and as a lifelong dairy farmer, I was proud to recognize the hardworking farmers, ranchers, and farmworkers who feed our nation and the world. Agriculture is the backbone of the Central Valley, driving our local economy and sustaining millions of families. From pushing for reliable water infrastructure to advocating for fair trade policies, I remain committed to fighting to ensure our producers have the resources necessary to thrive. Thank you to all who have dedicated their lives to the agricultural industry—our nation is stronger because of you.

Team Valadao in the Valley

This week, Team Valadao was out in California's 22nd Congressional District connecting with our community. On Monday, the team attended the Delano City Council meeting, where they presented certificates to Delano Police Officers Daniel Perez and Lisbeth Ramirez for their outstanding achievement of saving the life of an eight month old baby struggling to breathe. Later in the week, they attended the ribbon cuttings for Echelon Security Group and Elite Corporate Medical Services Employee Health Center in Tulare. Finally, Team Valadao attended the Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Academy graduation in Bakersfield, where they presented certificates.

Our question this week comes from Ellen in Bakersfield. She asked: "I'm a retired teacher and heard that my type of pension means I could be entitled to more retirement benefits. Is this true?" Thank you for your question, Ellen. The Social Security Administration recently announced they would be providing retroactive benefits and increasing monthly benefit payments to qualified individuals under the Social Security Fairness Act—legislation I helped champion which was passed in the 118th Congress. This bill got rid of the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) from the Social Security Act for public service employees like police officers, teachers, and firefighters. I've heard from countless public service employees in the Central Valley about their frustration with having their social security benefits unfairly reduced, and the signing of this bill into law ensures the folks who dedicated their careers to public service and paid into the system receive the full benefits they've earned. If you have any questions about the status of your retroactive payment, please reach out to the Social Security Administration as of April. For frequently asked questions, please click on the button below to be redirected to the Social Security Administration's FAQ page.
