Beginning the 119th Congress

Last Friday marked the start of the 119th Congress, and earlier this week, I officially signed my Oath of Office to serve as your representative in California's 22nd Congressional District. I’m truly honored and humbled by the trust you’ve placed in me to represent the Central Valley in our nation’s capital. This new Congress brings incredible opportunities and I’m ready to get back to work for our community. From fighting to lower costs for families and strengthening our agricultural industry, to advancing American energy independence and addressing California’s water crisis, I’m ready to take on the issues that matter the most and deliver common-sense results for the Central Valley.

Supporting our Public Service Workers

For decades, public service workers like police officers, teachers, and firefighters in the Central Valley and across the nation have seen their Social Security benefits reduced due to the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP). Efforts to repeal these unfair provisions have been ongoing for many years and it’s been long overdue that we ensure our public servants receive their full Social Security benefits after paying into the system their entire career. To address this, last year I co-sponsored, signed the discharge petition for, and voted in favor of H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act, which was signed into law by the President last week and provides millions of public servants with the benefits they’ve earned. I’m proud to have supported this bill throughout the legislative process and will continue to work across the aisle to help improve the lives of hardworking Central Valley residents.

Addressing the Wildfires in L.A. County

The devastation caused by the current wildfires raging in L.A. County has been heartbreaking. My prayers are with all those impacted, as well as the brave first responders who are working tirelessly to battle the flames and protect residents. This week, I joined my fellow Congressional lawmakers from the state of California in a letter urging President Biden to approve the major disaster declaration for the fires. I’m grateful that the President was quick to grant the request. You can read the full letter here.

Certifying the Presidential Election

Every four years, Congress fulfills its constitutional duty by certifying the results of the Presidential election. On Monday, we held a joint session of Congress and officially certified the election for President Trump. I’m looking forward to working with the incoming administration to get results for the Central Valley!

Standing with Israel

For the last several months, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has been inappropriately targeting Israel for their continued fight against terrorism. On Thursday, I was proud to vote in favor of H.R. 23, the Illegitimate Counteraction Act, which sanctions the ICC for their actions. This bill reaffirms Congress’ unwavering support for our ally, Israel, and emphasizes their ongoing right to self-defense.
