Celebrating National Milk Day on Capitol Hill

This week we celebrated National Milk Day, and I thought there was no better way to celebrate the occasion than dropping off some CA-22 milk to a few of my friends in Congress. Members from all over the country got to sample some milk from right here in the Central Valley, and I think the verdict among them was clear – the happiest cows do come from California. Thank you to all of our dairy producers throughout California and the Central Valley for your work producing over 21% of our nation’s milk supply. Happy National Milk Day!

You can watch my milk deliveries here.

Demanding Answers for

Central Valley Small Businesses

This week, I sent a letter to the Commissioner of the IRS, Danny Werfel, requesting answers on the agency's handling of the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC) –a COVID tax policy enacted to help small businesses keep people employed during the pandemic. This credit was crucial to helping Valley businesses stay afloat, but the IRS has experienced significant issues with the processing of ERTC claims, and in September issued a moratorium of processing any new claims. This has been a huge issue for businesses who filed legitimate claims and are waiting for their refunds. I’ll continue working to get answers from the IRS for our community’s small businesses.

You can read my full letter here.

Raising Awareness on Human Trafficking

January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month. California has some of the highest numbers of reported human trafficking cases of any state in the country, and combatting this epidemic is one of the issues most important to me. As the co-chair of the Congressional Human Trafficking Caucus, I'm proud to stand with the advocates, nonprofit groups, and law enforcement working to stop human trafficking and save lives.

If you or someone you know is a victim of human trafficking, you can call 1-888-373-7888 or Text 233733 to get help today.

Supporting Law Enforcement

This week, we celebrated National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day – a great opportunity to recognize the brave men and women who risk their lives each day to keep our communities safe. To all our law enforcement officers across the Valley – thank you for everything you do!

Visiting with Valley Seniors in Shafter

This week, I visited the Shafter Senior Center to tour the facility and see firsthand the benefits the center offers to the community. Last year, I submitted a federal funding project request on behalf of the Senior Center to help with much-needed restoration efforts. It was great to learn more about how that funding would improve the lives of seniors in the area. I also got to speak with many of the people there and hear from them about how the center helps seniors stay healthy and social. It was great meeting with our Valley seniors and learning about all the Shafter Senior Center has to offer to our community.

Congratulations to CA-22's Congressional App Challenge Winner

I want to congratulate the 2023 Congressional App Challenge winner – Eli. Eli is a student at Hanford West High School, and he was selected as this year’s winner for his work designing his own video game called “500 Rooms”. His app will now be displayed in the U.S. Capitol and on the House website. Great work Eli, you’ve made the Central Valley proud!
