Dear [firstname],
Like many of you, I was shocked and horrified by the violent assassination attempt on former President Trump this weekend. Political violence is never acceptable and has no place in our democracy.
We need to take a step back, turn the temperature down, and remember that we can disagree while still being civil with one another. Our political opponents are not our enemies. In America, disagreements are resolved through our democratic system of government.
I’m thankful for the quick work of law enforcement and first responders. These folks are heroes who put their lives on the line each day when they go to work.
My thoughts are with the family of Corey Comperatore, a volunteer firefighter of two who lost his life protecting others during this senseless violence. I’m also keeping the other victims who suffered injuries in my prayers.
At this point in time, there are still a lot of questions and a lot we don’t know. I’ll be working with Speaker Johnson and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure Congress conducts a thorough investigation to provide the American people with answers.
Now is not the time for more divisive rhetoric, but an opportunity to remember who we are and what we stand for. I hope we can rise above this and move forward united in our shared ideals as Americans.
Sincerely,
