Central Valley Health Network honored U.S. Congressman David G. Valadao with the 2017 Health Champion Award for his continued support of community health centers.

WASHINGTON – Today, the Central Valley Health Network honored U.S. Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) with the 2017 Health Champion Award for his leadership promoting sensible healthcare policies and his continued support of community health centers.

Central Valley Health Network is comprised of thirteen Community Health Center corporations designated as Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) located throughout the Central Valley. These health centers provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to low-income and medically underserved families including individuals of all ages and people with and without health insurance. Central Valley Health Network is also one of the largest network of Migrant Health Centers serving rural, farm-working populations and their families.

Central Valley Health Network Board Chair, Dr. Jonathan Porteus stated, “In giving Congressman Valadao our Champion's Award, the Central Valley Health Network is acknowledging his unfailing commitment to our mission of supporting a blanket of primary care for the people of the Central Valley."

Congressman Valadao stated, “The role community health centers play in our healthcare system cannot be overstated and we are incredibly fortunate to have the Central Valley Health Network and its members serving our communities.” He continued, “Throughout my time in Congress, I have advocated on behalf of policies to increase access to healthcare for my constituents. It is an honor to receive this award today, and I look forward to continuing my work with the Central Valley Health Network as Congress considers potential healthcare reforms.”

Representatives from the Central Valley Health Network and the National Association of Community Health Centers took part in the meeting and award presentation. Representatives from local community health centers Omni Family Health located in Bakersfield, Aria Community Health Center from Lemoore, and Altura from Tulare were also present.


Congressman David G. Valadao represents the 21st Congressional District, which includes Kings County and portions of Fresno, Tulare, and Kern Counties.
